coffee.jpgLooking for writing jobs? If you've got social media expertise and use sites like MySpace, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook with confidence, you'll be able to get marketing gigs from companies looking to improve their online visibility.

Just in the past week, I've spoken with several writers who've been hired by medium-sized companies which want greater prominence on the social networking sites.

These jobs were on six-month contracts, and paid in five figures. This isn't bad for writing jobs which would take less than an hour a day on weekdays;  around 120 hours in total. I worked out that the writers were being paid approximately $150 an hour.

How Do You Get These Social Media Marketing Writing Jobs?

Obviously, check the out-sourcing sites, and the large job boards. You can also create proposals for companies for which you're already writing. This is how Susanna, a marketing writer, landed her gig.

She told me: "I was already writing marketing collateral for the company, and when we discussed social media marketing in a meeting, I explained how the sites worked - I spend more time on them than I should. I was asked to create a proposal, outlining the scope of what I could do on the sites, and that was that. I landed the contract."

Before you start looking for these gigs however, get active on the social media sites yourself. If you're new to social media, just choose one of the sites each week, and use it yourself. Don't spend too much time on this - these sites can be real time sinks - just build up your profile, and start interacting.

Next, check how companies are already using these sites, then get in touch with companies you're currently writing for, or have written for in the past, and create some proposals.

Could you land a social media marketing writing job? Yes, if you have knowledge of these sites, and some creative ideas. While these kinds of jobs wouldn't suit a new writer, if you're established and get familiar with these sites, you will be in demand.
